Despacito from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song that was streamed the most in less than six months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop that not only drew attention to Latin music but as well reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 songs. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix to Despacito (2017) popular artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma in Medellin (2019). In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of their genre to the mainstream. Yet, a young generation like Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the trend going. The genre often incorporated electronic dance as well as different forms.
